if aliens are not sending strong signals for other civilizations to detect, we probably shouldnt do it ourselves.

if aliens are afraid of showing their location to other civilizations, it probably means they have a reason to be afraid... either by already having contact with other dangerous aliens, or by mirrored thinking... they know THEY would be dangerous, so like us human, they think others might be dangerous as well.

and that probably true... any alien only exists through natural selection... and just by looking on Earth, all animals defend their territory, kill other beings (even if its plant life), etc.

we humans think we are specially evil, but I am sure any intelligent civilization is probably dangerous and somewhat protects its territory agressively, because they, like us, evolved from animals that did so.

Thanks for the post.

I think that water is necessary for life like us but I make the point that we just don't understand enough to say water is absolutely necessary for life in general.

Trouble is they may not be recognisable as life without water.

The problem with saying that alien life doesn't need water is that water is the universal solvent, facilitates osmosis, and has other features that make it perfect for life. Books have been written on the subject of why water is a miracle.

I agree that they wouldn't need to be cellular, as there are probably many different combinations of chemistry that can create life. Water is pretty essential I would reckon, but of course it's not impossible (just unlikely) that life can be sustained without water.
