ET leftovers

We have been trying to communicate with ET Or other civilisations for a long human time but when you compare that to the universe’s clock it’s not even one millionth of a second. Time is the big problem when looking for other civilisations and being human we really don’t have time on our side at the moment, perhaps in the future we will but we all want results right now as, if you’re like me, you just have to know.

A radio signal in the universe has been said to be similar to throwing a dart at a dart board and trying to hit the bull when the dartboard is four light years away. A light year is the distance light travels in one year, and if you really can’t visualise that then think of a really enormous distance and times it by 10 trillion.

But is the universe the way we are actually told it is? The distance of stars is measured by bouncing light off them and seeing how long it takes to get back but are measurements like these correct? Once the earth was deemed to be the centre of the universe and we discovered later on that it wasn’t. Perhaps later on we will find that the universe is not at all what we think it is and kick ourselves for not carrying out various things such as sending many more radio signals than we are and trying to communicate with aliens. I read a book lately, called Spin that had the idea that the earth was encircled by an electro magnetic barrier a sort of a force field but this force field was cutting off the rest of the universe and the outside was running a lot faster than the time inside the barrier i.e. the earth side. Earth’s inhabitants  knew that there was a barrier because they couldn’t see through it but how do we know that a barrier similar to that one couldn’t be transparent for instance and causing all sorts of  visual illusions? I won’t talk too much about the book as it’s worth a read and I don’t want to spoil it but the idea is thought provoking.

As the universe stands at the moment it is very big and I’m going to get totally depressed because it is so big we probably won’t contact aliens in our lifetimes. So what is there to look at and what can we do? Well all the time we are finding remnants of ancient civilisations on our planet and this is communication from the past. It’s not very satisfying but still it is communication of a sort. This is what I imagine the universe at the moment is producing, lots of civilisations that have left remnants behind and all we have to do to communicate with them is to reach their planets. Oh dear! that will also take a long time as well  wont it.

Remnants of other civilisations could be seen in other ways such as the arrangement of stars. Light travelling from the stars is reaching us all the time and perhaps one group of stars will be arranged sending a message to anyone that wants to read it. more thanPulling stars around and rearranging them is pretty hard and would take more than an afternoon for us but perhaps other civilisations have advanced far enough so that they can manipulate the universe around them. This does pose the question of why they haven’t jumped in a spaceship and cruised around but then not every theory is perfect. Patterns of stars have been made out by the Greeks ages ago so there is nothing new to us looking for the patterns but the meaning to us could be different now.

Perhaps the sounds of pulsars are trying to tell us something.  If you watch the video below you can hear the sound of a pulsar.  It’s very hard to make out but you can hear “come and get us  we’re not scared” repeated over and over.

I wonder if the galaxies could have been moved around as well as a monument to some super civilisation? Dark matter and dark energy is still unknown to us although many theories have sprung up. Dark matter and dark energy is said to be the cause of the galaxies placement inaccuracies in the universe.  Perhaps dark energy and dark matter is not needed to explain it perhaps another civilisation just came along and kicked them out of their perfect positions? While we are at it when we get a much bigger understanding of the place we live in we may find out that universes have been moved around as well. I wouldn’t mind watching that!
